We are pleased to make available the 3rd part of the archive footage from 1985, filmed at Janów Podlaski State Stud, dedicated to Polish Arabian horse breeding. “This is the Polish National Show from 1985, which accompanied the Polish Prestige Sale in Janów Podlaski” explains Marek Grzybowski (Polish Prestige), the co-author of the video. “At first the breeders showed reluctance towards the show and weren’t keen on participating. The breeders of the State Studs were excellent horsemen and didn’t understand the necessity of foreigners judging their horses. But we managed to convince the late directors – Krzyształowicz and Jaworowski – to organize such a show. The show awarded horses with the titles of champions. And we – the organizers of the Janów auction – needed those titles to offer for sale not anonymous horses, but champions or their produce.”
“Showing horses in Poland was a new thing and there was no „right” method of doing it”, adds Marek Grzybowski. “The stud grooms simply showed the horses in a natural way, which is now known as the “Polish style”. It is quite different from the American showmanship. Our Polish way was very graceful and allowed horses to show their natural beauty. The movement is not forced upon the horse or a result of special training – it is the horse’s own. The groom’s only task was to keep up with the trotting horse”.
The material features, among others, the mares Almeria, Elewka, Premia, Fantastka and stallions Penitent and Algomej. The film, taped by the Arabian Horse Video Magazine (USA) crew, is accompanied by the commentary of Marek Grzebowski.
This is the third video from four filmed in 1985. The first one, a music clip, is already available on our You Tube channel, as well as the 2nd one, introduces us to Polish breeding of that time. The fourth will be dedicated to the Polish Prestige Sale 1985.
