During the last weekend, in the B show championship in Ströhen organized traditionally on the premises of the stud and zoological gardens of the Ismer family, only a couple of horses from Poland were presented. One of the comers from our country, the Israeli-bred AA Assal by Laheeb (out of Asia/MH Weston), leased by Wojciech Kowalik, received as much as 93,3 points from the judges, after which he reached for the highest honor and became Senior Champion Stallion, besting a grandson of Ali Jamaal and Sanadik El Shaklan – the stallion Om El Bahreyn (CG Balih El Jamaal – Om El Benedict). The second arrival from Poland, Etnodrons Psyche (Padrons Psyche – Etnografia/Aloes), Polish bred (by Stanisław Redestowicz) and owned (by Paweł Redestowicz), was also awarded with a high score (90,6) and placed second in his class, behind the soon-to-be champion.

Presented in the yearling fillies class was Arista (Psytadel – Afrodyta by Ararat), owned by Mr. and Mrs. Rybczyński, as well as Al Kahima (Gaspar – Alfa by Eukaliptus), owned by Grzegorz Paw. Both fillies scored 88,33 points. The class was won by the strongly linebred to Magnum Psyche filly Anna Nicole NWA by WH Justice out of a Magnum Psyche daughter.

A much better result than that of the yearling fillies was delivered by the 2 year old Espiria (Psytadel – Ekspiacja/Emigrant), owned by Lech Błaszczyk. The filly with a score of 91,3 points took second place in class (behind Om El Enigma by Al Lahab) and on Sunday participated in the championships. Last year, at the same event, she was fourth in class.

She placed second in her class, achieving a very high score of 93 points. However she was beaten by Arrowen-Bint-Eternity by Eternity Ibn Navarrone-D with a score of 93,6, that was chosen Senior Champion Mare later on.

We already know the schedule of Chrcynno-Palace Open House, organized by the stud owners – Alicja, Ewa and Krzysztof Poszepczyński – inviting breeders, trainers and Arabian horse lovers. The Open House will take part on Monday 11th July after Arabian Horse Days event at Janów Podlaski.
Chrcynno village is located on Mazovia region of Poland, 50 kilometers from Warsaw, nearby Nasielsk. The farm specializes in show horses and was established in 2000 when the first barn was built. Well known show horses as Ganga (Emigrant – Granada), her full sister Gaja Selene, or Psyche Victoria (Ekstern – Pallas Atena) were born there.

The Chrcynno Palace by Alicja Poszepczyńska

Open House will start at 2 pm with a garden party accompanied by relaxing music. About 3 pm the visitors will be invited to indoor arena where the breeding parade will take place. The horses will be presented in female lines order, some of them free. The show will be commented by Tomasz Skotnicki.

Tomasz Skotnicki graduated Warsaw Agricultural University (SGGW) with Arabian horses master thesis. After that he worked at Janów Podlaski state stud as the assistant to the director Andrzej Krzyształowicz, also as the co-establisher of the first auctions at the stud and Polish National show. He was the handler of Janów-bred horses for number of times including Algeria, Enklawa, Etruria, Pilarka or Gondolier on the lead. In 1982 he left for Arizona to be the manager of American Farms and co-organize Scottsdale sales. Afterwards he managed Magness Arabians in California and Colorado. Those times Magness Arabians, importing lots of horses from Poland (including Polish National Champion Fantastka) was the biggest Arabian horse farm in the US. In the meantime Tomasz Skotnicki created the legend of the famous racing horse Monarch AH, sire of Polish-bred outstanding racer Savannah. Nowadays Tomasz Skotnicki is a Honorary Consul of Poland in Colorado working as international consultant also in breeding.

Psyche Victoria, Al Khalediah Show, Riyadh, by Erwin Escher

After the breeding parade the guests will be invited for a nice walk along the stud and 5,5 hectares historical park surrounding the palace; some representative apartments of it will also be open for public. The palace designed by Henryk Marconi in XIX century was built in 1845 and is one of the three pearls of the Gothic Revival architecture in this region of Poland. For the last 55 years it was a ruin destroyed by the Soviet army leaving Poland in December 1945. Its current owners restored the past architecture of the palace with original Marconi’s design.

At the end of the Open House day the guests interested in purchasing Chrcynno-Palace horses will be invited to individual talks and horse presentations. There is one of the best producers in Poland offered for sale – dam of the show mares Ganga, Gaja Selene, Gaja Iris and the colt Galahad – a Monogramm daughter out of Polish National Champion Grenlandia Granada. Also the young Panakeja, sired by Ekstern and close relative to one of the best young fillies in Europe – Psyche Victoria – is offered as well as some more young horses: show, breeding and performance prospects.

“We would like to pay our tribute to all of these who have invited us to their studs and shown us their breeding programs and present them and some other Arabian horse enthusiasts our farm and breeding program. We hope that this visit at Chrcynno after exhausting Arabian Horse Days will be a nice addition”, Alicja Poszepczyńska says. “I know myself that visiting studfarms is not only watching beautiful horses but also meeting the Arabian horse community and talking so it’s an occasion to learn and know interesting people. Unfortunately the open house events – such popular in the western countries – are still not very common for Polish breeders. We would like to change it as one of the first private breeders in Poland.

Yesterday, precisely at 6 pm, the international A show in Menton on the French Riviera began, with the female classes evaluated all through the day. Poland (in the two year old fillies’ class) was represented only by Psyche Victoria (Ekstern – Pallas-Atena), bred and owned by Chrcynno Stud, who presented herself among seven other fillies, mostly already known from show arenas and highly assessed – the first three scores surpassed 92 points! Psyche Victoria (368,5 points from four judges, with an average of 92,125) placed second behind Abha Palma (Marwan Al Shaqab – Abha Ghazali) bred and owned by Marieta Salas from the Spanish stud Ses Planes. Abha Palma also received an award for the best head. Third came Lady Adelina DD (Psytadel – Monogrammed Lady), fourth – the French Zawah de Lam (AS Kayro – Wilaya de Lam), fifth – the Ses Planes-bred Abha Al Shaqab (Abha Fadl – Abha Galati) from Qatar, sixth – Sophie El Power JQ (Power World JQ – Elkada Sahibi), bred in Brazil and owned by Az.Agr.Tripodi.

„Up until the end we did not know the final results, because the sound system here was rather weak”, says Alicja Poszepczyńska, the breeder of Psyche Victoria. “It turned out that two of the judges gave Psyche Victoria first place (she received from them as much as 93,5 points), while she was evaluated the lowest by the Moroccan judge – only 89,5.”

„It is one of the most important shows in the world”, adds Krzysztof Poszepczyński, „strongly sponsored by the Arabic countries, mainly by Saudi Arabia (Al Khalediah). Another sponsor is the British stud of Halsdon Arabians. It is really hard to squeeze into the top spots, the competition is huge, so we are very pleased with Psyche Victoria’s results.”

On Sunday Psyche Victoria will compete in the Championships. Apart from her, the only filly with Polish pedigree that was presented in the show was the yearling Passion Isztar (Canzon Psyche – Pamira), owned by Ilona Pfeifer, a breeder residing in France, but bearing Polish origins. The filly however was not able to best her rivals. Today’s male classes include Polish-breds, but foreign-owned horses: Piwosz (Arbil – Piwnica) of Jean-Jacques Savenier, as well as Edin (Laheeb – Edina) and Emrod (Emigrant – Empressa), both owned by Joseph Geenen. The classes will begin at 9:45 am (part one) and will be continued at 3:30 pm. The event is scheduled to end at 11 pm with special presentations.

Michałów-bred stallion Emigrant 1991 (Ararat – Emigrantka/Eukaliptus), Polish National Champion 2002, European Champion 2001, Reserve Champion in Aachen 1999 is on his way to America now. He was sold to Valley Oak Arabians. His new owner Manny Vierra was negotiating his purchase during his last, spring stay in Poland. Raymond Mazzei, who was advising him, explains to the polskiearaby.pl website why they have chosen this stallion:

Emigrant by Katarzyna Dolińska

“I chose this stallion for many reasons. His mother is one of the great mares of all time in Poland, for sure the most beautiful of all the Eukaliptus daughters. She was Polish National Champion (1992) and European Champion Mare (1991). Emigrant’s pedigree is a blending of the most beautiful and classic blood used in Polish breeding. He is the most valuable progenitor of the Saklawi I sire line, continuing the influence of Palas in Polish breeding. A walk through the barns at the state studs will show the influence he has had on the breeding program at both Janów and Michałów, just be amazed at the number of his daughters that are tied to the walls at their broodmare barn. Emigrant personifies Arabian type, a classic head of perfect proportions, large dark eyes and perfect ears, a most balanced body, extreme charisma, world class quality and elegant movement”.

Emigrant by Katarzyna Dolińska

What expectations do the new owners have towards him?
“I expect Emigrant to be the sensation of the century in America”, says Raymond, “there is no stallion in America that has so carefully planed pedigree and such great ancestors. He will be the superstar at Furioso Farm. Emigrant will be bred to some of the best mares in America at Valley Oak Arabians. We will carefully plan Emigrant’s future. I expect this horse to be possibly the most famous stallion to ever leave Poland”.

The most prominent and widely used Emigrant son in Poland is Polish National Champion Gaspar 1998 (out of Gaskonia).

As Arab el Haira Stud, owned by Annette Teuber-Rieger and Volker Teuber (Germany) informed us, a few days ago (28th May) a bay filly by international multichampion Esparto (Ekstern – Ekspozycja), bred by Michałów Stud and on lease to Ajman Stud, was born. The filly, out of Riad Hannah (TC Kashmir – Habenda/Probat) is the first pure Polish foal by Esparto born in Europe.

“We have seen Esparto in Aachen in 2006”, explains Annette Teuber-Rieger. “He was so beautiful and since the first moment our favorite! After we heard that Esparto would arrive at Frank Spönle´s training center in Germany for a short time, we took our chance and booked a breeding for our mare Hannah which owns a really good pedigree on Polish bloodlines. Her mother Habenda (Probat – Hajnówka), bred by Janów Podlaski Stud, is Elitemare in Germany. Her father TC Kashmir is a son of the famous stallion Nabor. The combination of Monogramm, Eukaliptus, Probat and Nabor was very interesting for us. Esparto’s wonderful type and outstanding movement made him to be the right stallion for Hannah to “create” an also outstanding foal”.

“Hadiya el Haira is as beautiful as her parents” Annette continues. “She has very long legs, a very elegant body and a very, very typeful face. We are so happy with her, because she got everything we expected from this combination of bloodlines. This year we will give all our mares an “appointment” with Esparto. Hannah again, Wieranca (Ferment – Wierana by Euben), and Anatewka (Ecaho – Anegdota by Eldon). We hope that we will have the same luck as in 2008”.

The suppositions, which have been floating around for some time, have been confirmed – the mystery offer of this year’s Pride of Poland Sale is the 13 year old Kwestura (Monogramm – Kwesta/Pesennik). The news was announced through the Pride of Poland and Michałów Stud websites. Nearly to the last moment (before printing the catalogue) the breeders from Michałów did not want to reveal which Monogramm daughter will be offered by them this year. 2007 World Champion Mare, 2003 US National Champion Mare, 2000 European Champion Mare, 1999 All Nations Cup Champion Mare, 1996 Polish National Champion Filly – these are just a few titles belonging to this fabulous chestnut, winning the hearts of the public and jury wherever she goes. In addition Kwestura is an accomplished broodmare – her son Kabsztad (by Poganin) became Junior Champion Stallion at the Spring Show in Białka three days ago. Kwestura leaves a successor in Michałów, the grey Kasjopea by Eldon. In the US she has five offspring born from embryotransfer. She is currently bred to QR Marc.

In our voting poll we asked which Monogramm daughter will be put up for auction – Kwestura gained 46% of the votes before Embra (28%), Zagrobla (14%) and Emocja (12%).

Another success of a Polish-bred horse at the 2nd Arabian Breeders World Cup in Las Vegas was the 2nd place taken by Wadim (Grandorr – Warszula/Palas) in the 12-year- old and over stallions class. This horse has already a lot of titles, being Swedish National Champion, Res. European Champion and All Nations Cup Champion Stallion among others. He was defeated by the veteran Dakar El Jamaal (Ali Jamaal – Sonoma Lady/KJ Jordgee Boy) bred by Mrs. Lenita Perroy from Brazil, the sire of the famous Dakharo (out of FOF Kharolina by Padrons Psyche). This is how our correspondent Nancy Pierce reports about it:

Dakar El Jamaal by Nancy Pierce

“Former United States National Champion Senior Stallion, *Dakar El Jamaal, was back in the ring Saturday night, again shown by Michael Byatt. With a score of 553.5, the handsome alabaster white *Dakar earned the first place honors with the very elegant pure Polish *Wadim PL coming in second place behind him with 540.5 points. *Dakar partners Doug Dahmen and Walt and Delores Lane were ecstatic at the win. Asked how it felt to bring the stallion out of retirement to win at this show, partner Walt Lane responded: Wonderful! Out of all the victories I’ve had over the past 28 years of showing, this was by far the best!”

But later in the championships Dakar El Jamaal placed second. It was the bay Arbiteur (Regal Actor JP – Genevieve C/ Genesis C) bred by Lucy Whittier, that won the Champion Sr. Stallion title and Lucy Whittier took the Arabian Breeders Cup for the best breeder.

The handsome Art Dekko TT (Audacious PS – HC Amareea/Echo Magnificoo) that we mentioned yesterday won his class (4-5-year-old stallions) and entered the Top Five, with two Versace sons as well: DA Vinci FM (out of Full Moon Astar/Yahya Matuk) and Brandon Bey JCA (out of Hushahby Bey/Bey Shah).

Simeon Sehavi by Nancy Pierce

The class winner, Michałów-bred Dumka (Laheeb – Dąbrowa/Probat) also placed in the Top Five. The Australian Simeon Sehavi (Asfour – Simeon Heba/Raadin Royal Star), recently sold by an undisclosed amount in the seven-figure range to Dubai, won the Reserve Champion Mare title. “Ever since Simeon Sehavi was born I had offers to purchase her – it was never a thought”, said the breeder Marion Richmond to the “Arabian Horse World” magazine. “The pressure intensified in January 2008 when Greg Gallun from the U.S., Christine Jamar from Belgium, Achim Dirnhofer and Esther Friedman from Germany and Sheikh Mohamed Al Tawhidi from Dubai arrived to see our 15-hand liver chestnut. The final decision came after Sehavi trotted flamboyantly around our large arena and came back to Mr. Al Tawhidi, who kissed her several times”.

The Champion Mare title was given to the Argentinean (Haras Mayed) mare JJ Polaca (Magnum Psyche – Sol Magic/Solistce) that has, as her name points, Polish blood in her pedigree. In the Top Five placed also another Magnum daughter, Amelia B (out of Amety B/Eternity) and CR La Naturel (CR Kiyev – HK Naturette/Naturel).

Empres by Nancy Pierce

Gazal Al Shaqab son NW Siensei (out of a Padrons Psyche daughter NW Siena Psyche) won the Champion Junior Stallion title and Shannan El Madan (Shael Dream Desert – Perla K/CG Balih El Jamaal) – the Reserve title. Champion Junior Mare is Kharrea PGA (Khadraj NA – Gai Portia/Gai Monarch), while Reserve an Enzo daughter EVG Tessara (out of Star Of Quintessa/Strike).

Michałów-bred Empres (Monogramm – Empressa/Probat) that was shown in the12- year-old and over stallions class, placed between the first five horses.

Michałów-bred Dumka (Laheeb – Dąbrowa/Probat), owned by Valley Oak Arabians, won the 6-8-year-old mares class in the 2nd Arabian Breeders World Cup taking place in Las Vegas. The mare Simeon Sehavi (Asfour – Simeon Heba/Raadin Royal Star), bred by the Australian Simeon Stud and owned by Dubai Stud – that we have mentioned in our previous news – won the 9-10-year-old mares class, collecting seven “twenties”. She will be the rival of Dumka in the finals.

Our correspondent Nancy Pierce spoke to some participants. Kathy Wilson of Wildemar Farm says: “Of course, Simeon Sehavi took everyone’s breath away! And I just saw the beautiful black bay stallion, Art Dekko TT (Audacious PS – HC Amareea/Echo Magnificoo), in his stall and I can’t wait to see how he shows tomorrow.”

Robin Rye of Timestone Arabians adds: “Simeon Sehavi was regal, but I also loved AW Fortune N Gold (Legacy of Gold – Heres Love/Traditio) in that class – just beautiful world class mares. It was exciting to see the exciting young black bay Gazal Al Shaqab daughter, WC Gorgeous Gazal win her class today – she looks to be another *Pianissima coming up.”

And Holly Dillin of Western Cross Ranch (Texas), breeder of WC Gorgeous Gazal (out of Lady Bey Khelishah/Bey Shah) proudly says: “There are lots of fabulous fillies and mares here today, but the highlight of the show for me so far was seeing our filly, WC Gorgeous Gazal, win over a beautiful class of 2-year-old fillies!”

This departure is a special moment in the history of the breeding contacts between Poland and Iran, being the first direct import of Polish horses to this Middle Eastern country ever. For the very first time the Iranian client came to buy one particular stallion only – the chestnut Tullamore, but impressed by Polish hospitality and the quality and beauty of Polish horses he purchased three stallions at one time. The negotiations and accomplishment of formalities took quite a few months and were not easy – the client was looking for the beauty and high quality horses but also different in type and pedigrees. Even the people involved with World Arabian Horse

Organization (WAHO) agree that Iran is not the easiest country to export the horses to – due to the strict vet and import rules. The owners of the horses just purchased confirm their satisfaction with the sale that has some important goal for the other country’ breeding. Nowadays, it’s very hard to influence the breeding of any country from the very beginning. This time it worked – the stallions will be located in three different breeding centers throughout Iran and the news about the purchase is very emotional in the country already. There is a New Years time in Iran currently (due to the local calendar). Just after that and the stallions acclimatization the new owner is planning to arrange some spectacular stallions presentation combined with some local Arabian horse show probably.

Iran, the former Persia, is the territory where the Arabian horse breed tracks it’s backgrounds from – probably not everyone knows that Kuhailan and Saklavi – the names of the popular strains and their ancestors are also the names of two Iranian villages still existing. Nowadays, there is mostly the desert bred (Asil) Arabian horse being bred Iran – and the imports of foreign Arabians were quite rare so far. Asil horse, being the national heritage of Iran without a doubt – very well performer and brave saddle horse of great heart and character is much more different in type than the horses we used to know from %alttext% European, US or Middle Eastern Arabian horse shows. There is a group of rich and ambitious Iranian breeders who wish to join the international community at these shows and international breeding so far. In the conclusion, this import is probably the very beginning of some closer co-operation between Poland and Iran in the future. It was unofficially said that some more Iranian breeders are considering shopping for horses in Poland.

Tullamore, Faronn and Black Solfernus are on the way to Luxembourg where will be loaded to the Iranian aircraft and transported to Teheran when the new owner is looking forward to see them on Saturday.

Ecaho 1990 (Pepton – Etruria/Palas) has been sold – informed Ferlita Arabians, who have owned the Janów Podlaski-bred stallion since 2003. As polskiearaby.pl found out, the buyers, Cuban originating Americans, Gilbert and Jennie De Cardenas, owners of a stud located in California’s Santa Ynez Valley, paid nearly one million dollars for him.

Ferlita Arabians will now probably import a new stallion, perhaps from Israel. Raymond Mazzei (of Furioso Farm, California), the manager of Ferlita Arabians and trainer, claims that Ecaho is – up to now – the best and most important horse brought by him to America. Ecaho has again drawn attention to himself lately, mainly through his daughter Olita (out of Orawa by Argo), leased by Valley Oak Arabians, which became Reserve Champion Mare at the show in Scottsdale, but also throughanother daughter El Euphoria VO out of El Dorada (2nd place among 2 year old fillies at the same show).
