At night on 18/19 July one of the most significant Polish broodmares, the most valuable mare of Janów Podlaski Stud, continuing the famous “P” line at this stud, Pipi, accidentally passed away. Born in 1981, Pipi was the representative of the oldest Polish Arabian male line – Krzyżyk db. (imported in 1876 to Jarczowce) and one of the most valuable Polish female lines – of the mare Szamrajówka, born ca.1810 at first Polish Arabian horse stud – established by Count Branicki at Biała Cerkiew.

Pipi’s sire – British National Champion Stallion – Banat (El Azrak – Bandola)was the main continuator of Krzyżyk db sire line in Poland, he left 3 chief sires used in Poland and few broodmares – amongst of them the most significant one was Pipi. Pipi’s dam line, however it comes from Poland, after the Ist and IInd world’s wars was finally established in Janów Podlaski in 1956 when Piewica – Pipi’s great granddam was imported from Russia. It was Piewica who established the great family in Janów. Through this family Pipi is – amongst of all – connected with “the most expensive Polish mare”, US National Champion – Penicylina (sold at Polish Ovation sale for 1,5 mln $)and many other champions from “P” line. Pipi’s dam was Pilarka (Palas (RU) – Pierzga / Negatiw (RU)), twice European Champion Mare, World Champion Mare, World Cup Champion Mare and British National Champion Mare, called “the most admired Polish mare”. We may guess that she was the one from whom Pipi had her charm, grace and elegance of great Lady.

Last year the great successes of Piewica’ family came to Janów with Triple Crowned, Polish National Champion Pianissima – Pipi was her “aunt” (through her sister – Pinia – granddam of Pianissima). Pipi herself was also successful in shows – she was Polish National Champion Mare and Champion Mare of Masters Open in Ostenda. But the most valuable was as broodmare. She gave birth to 15 foals in Janów Podlaski stud. The most famous are the chief sires: Pilot (by Fawor) – Polish National Junior Champion Stallion, International Champion at Blommerod (SE), International British Champion Stallion (Towerlands) and Piaff (by Eldon)- Polish National Junior Reserve Champion and Champion Stallion and Polish National Reserve Senior Champion Stallion and National Champion of the Netherlands. Amongst of great Pipi’s daughters are: Pistacja (by Probat) – Polish National Junior Reserve Champion Mare and twice Senior Reserve Champion, Pikardia (by Alegro) – International Champion of Sweden and British Reserve Champion Mare and last but not least – Polish National Junior Champion Mare – Pilar and Pilica (both by Fawor) – valuable broodmares and Pipi’s continuators at Janów Podlaski Stud. All of us will be missing Pipi’s beautifull, characteristic, copper-coloured dapple grey at Janów Podlaski pastures…
