The second day of the Autumn Show in Janów Podlaski brought a considerable sensation: the Senior Champion Mare title went to, contrary to all prognosis, Valeriana (Werter – Vahta/Aspekt), bred and owned by Agricola Farm, though her rivals included such stars as Michałów’s Monogramm daughters: Emmona and Egzonera. In the stallions’ competition there was no sensation: Poganin was the winner and also chosen as Best in Show.

The Sunday competitions began with the Western Pleasure classes. Victorious was Wangelis (Empres – Warta/Wermut), bred by Tomasz Tarczyński, owned and ridden by Marek Suliga, before Hrabina (Equin – Habra/Argo), bred by Ryszard Wysocki, owned by Artur Górecki, under Anna Łagodzińska. In the next class, Western reining, the second pair bested the first.

Then began the second day of the halter presentations. The jury panel expanded, as the judges were joined by Mrs. Izabella Pawelec-Zawadzka. The first to present herself was Białka’s Perolia (out of Pereira/Eldon), a Gazal daughter already known from the show arenas, class winner from the previous year, bet on by many, beside her Janów-bred half-sisters on the spear side: Etnologia (out of Etalanta/Europejczyk) and Belgica (out of Belladona/Europejczyk), to be the leader of the 4-6 year old mares class. Perolia set the standard high for the remaining eleven mares, whipping up 90,5 points from this year’s strict judges. Second showed Valeriana and bested Perolia by half a point, receiving 91 in total. This result turned out to be unbeatable in this class. Etnologia took third place with a score of 90,17, Belgica – fourth (89,83), with Bełżyce’s Kashira (Magnum Psyche – Kahila IV/Bint Inas), bred by Stanisław Redestowicz, closing off the Top Five with 89,33.

Next the show arena was graced with seven mares aged 7 years old above, including two Monogramm daughters from Michałów, two known mares from Janów, one from Białka, one of Janów breeding but private property (Barba by Laheeb, owned by Piotr Podgórny), as well as Echo Kallisto (Pamir – Endera/Grandorr) from Chrcynno. It came as no surprise to anyone that the class was won by Egzonera (Monogramm – Egzotyka/Probat) with a high score of 91,5 points before Emmona (Monogramm – Emilda/Pamir) – 91,33. Third and fourth place went to the representatives of the hosts: Ariadne (Laheeb – Argentyna/Partner) and Andaluzja (Sanadik El Shaklan – Antwerpia/Eternit), while the fifth place was secured by the mare from Chrcynno. This class was sponsored by polskiearaby.pl website.

The stallion classes were preceded by the Western Freestyle contest, in which the afore mentioned Wangelis defeated Decaho (Ecaho – Demara Bis/Angor), bred by Natalia Napierała, owned by Borys Pardus. Decaho was ridden by Barbara Kasprowicz.

The 4-8 year old stallions class saw the face off of two Polish National Champions: Białka’s Ekstern son Celsjusz (out of Carina/Pesal) and Janów’s Laheeb progeny – Poganin (out of Pohulanka/Pepton). As expected, Poganin defeated his six rivals, receiving 92 points! Behind him placed Celsjusz with a score of 89,67. Third place belonged to El Azem (Gazal Al Shaqab – El Fatha/Entyk) from Janów, who this time did not display his wonderful movement for which he gained the highest mark last month at the Nationals. This time this feature was evaluated at just two “18s” and one “17,5”. Fourth was Janów’s Pegasus (Gazal Al Shaqab – Pepesza/Eukaliptus), fifth – his stablemate and half-brother on the spear side – Albus (out of Alegoria/Eukaliptus).

The highest (so far) score belonging Poganin was not highest for long, because only until Piaff (Eldon – Pipi/Banat) showed up in the ring. Piaff was one of the three competitors – all from Janów – in the 9 years old and above stallions class and scored as much as 93 points! This class also saw the only “20” of the show, earned for movement by Piber (Pamir – Pilina/Eternit), who placed second (90,83). Third was Aslan (Eukaliptus – Algora/Probat), winner of the costume class from the previous day.

During when everyone speculated whether the Reserve Championship will go to Emmona, Valeriana or Perolia (the first place for Egzonera seemed foregone) and the Champion title to Poganin or Piaff, the historical Polish costume class took place. The presentation was extremely scenic – it must be emphasized that the costumes are more and more elaborate with each year and make a truly huge impression, which was admitted by Elisabeth Chat, who was judging the costume classes. The mares and geldings competition was won by the horse-rider pair of Tunezja (Eldon – Tripla/Eukaliptus, bred and owned by Michałów Stud) – Konrad Błaszczyk (celebrating his 17th birthday on Sunday). In the first series of the stallions’ competition triumphed Grom (Album – Głowica/Pepi), bred by Eugeniusz Kupryś, owned by Michał Gryglas, ridden by Marek Prokopiuk. The second series was won by the pair Salar (Ecaho – Saba/Etat) – Aleksandra Owerko, who also received a special award for the youngest rider (13 years old).

Right after that came the choosing of Champions and Reserve Champions. First Emmona was declared Senior Reserve Champion Mare after which it turned out that the highest honor was awarded to Valeriana! The overjoyed breeder and owner, Hanna Sztuka of Agricola Farm, could hardly believe it herself. “I cannot even comment this”, she told polskiearaby.pl right after the announcement. “I will be happy tomorrow, today I can’t just yet… I like this horse, but I did not think that others would also take a liking in her. In my opinion Werter is a very good stallion. His dam Walkiria has Mamluk in her pedigree – a Tersk bred son of Aswan and Monogramma”.

The Senior Champion Stallion title went to Poganin, the Reserve – to Piaff. There were no surprises here, similar as with the Best in Show, which was awarded to Poganin.

The 3rd Autumn Show in Janów Podlaski proved yet again that shows are unpredictable. Dead cert favorites don’t always stand on the podium and horses not thought of as leaders can surprisingly win.

This year’s show was diversified not only by the costume classes, but also by the Western competitors. Without a doubt the broad rims of their hats and loud cheering from the audience are a new element in the peaceful scenery of Janów’s autumn show, which gains more and more prestige and sympathy from the contenders with each year.
