The 3 year old Primero Marc (QR Marc – Poruta/Monogramm), bred by Katarzyna Dolińska-Witkowska and Robert Witkowski from Zalia Arabians and leased by the Brazilian stud of Haras Engenho, made his debut on April 22nd during the 13th nation-wide Expogrande Arabian Show in Campo Grande (Mato Grosso do Sul, near the Paraguayan border) in Brazil. He first unanimously won his class and later, also unanimously, was chosen as Junior Champion Stallion and claimed the award for Most Classic Head. The halter classes saw 80 horses entered by 20 exhibitors, mainly from the Campo Grande region, though not only. Alongside Brazilian judges (Marcelo Ferras Borges, Rodrigo Foz Forte and trainee judges Daniel da Silva Dias and Guilherme Tapajos Tavora) the horses were also evaluated by Urszula Łęczycka representing Poland. Beside the halter classes the show also included Liberty, Native Costume and Western Pleasure classes.

„The show, despite its regional character, gathered quite a large group of horses from all over Brazil,” reports Urszula Łęczycka. „The entered horses displayed high quality, comparable to a B rank show in Europe. The organizers chose to hold the show on the grounds of the Laucidio Neto exhibition park in the center of the Campo Grande region’s capital. Other events apart from the Arabian horse show included the annual large agricultural fair with attractions for both children and adults, as well as an evening Arabian horse auction, which additionally increased the amount of visitors. To be found among exhibitors and spectators were the largest studs such as Haras Cruzeiro, Haras JM, Haras Paineiras and Haras dos Faveiros, as well as renowned training centers: Longuini Traning Center and Dejair Halter Training.”

It is by means of the latter that Primero Marc made his performance. „He stood out with height and type,” says Urszula Łęczycka, „with a proudly raised long neck and tail and displayed perhaps the best movement among all of the horses entered into the halter classes. Despite the fact that he had a 2 week older direct rival in class, Tazzaal di Pscore, presented by Rinaldo Longuini – a very handsome stallion bred by president of the Brazilian Arabian Horse Breeders Society (ABBCA), Jose Alves Filho – the jury, who sometimes preferred a different type of horse in their final decisions, chose Primero as the champion. Tazzaal ultimately settled for second place in class and the title of reserve.”

Primero’s main task during his several season lease to Brazil is first and foremost the covering of the mares of the lessee and other breeders who might be interested. He will probably find himself under the wings of a professional trainer not earlier than the next show season. For now the stallion is expecting one offspring – the mare in foal is Beatriz El Jamaal, daughter of the famous Ali Jamaal, bred by the known judge and breeder Lenita Perroy.
