Polskiearaby.com website is pleased to make available archive footage showing Polish Arabian horse breeding. Footage that was deemed to have been lost and has been found – thanks to the kind help of Mrs. Magdalena Karasewicz – just recently. “This material was filmed after the Polish Ovation Sale in 1985”, explains Marek Grzybowski, co-author and one of the main characters of the film made by the Americans. ”The event stirred a great interest in the Polish Arabian and Poland itself and attracted new clients. Arabian Horse Video Magazine, a film crew from the US, travelled to Poland and together with Animex made a film about Polish breeding”.

We present these priceless images, which document Polish breeding, in four parts. The first is a sort of music clip to the Barbra Streisand song “This is One of Those Moments”. „We, the Poles, wanted to show them historical monuments and our Polish culture – Kraków, Zakopane, Zamość, Częstochowa. They, on the other hand, wanted some “folklore” accents, which we wanted to hide. But thanks to that this film now has a sentimental value, showing a Poland that is becoming a thing of the past”, says Marek Grzybowski, who adds his commentary to the materials filmed by Arabian Horse Video Magazine.

The second part is a film taped in early spring, which features the then stars of Polish Arabian horse breeding: mares Harmonia, Elewacja, Algeria, Etruria, Candela, Pilarka, Arra, Fantastka and stallions Balon, Gil and Eternit, among others. The third is a coverage of the 1985 Polish National Show, whereas the fourth – a documentary of the Polish Prestige auction which took place in September.

We invite you to visit our You Tube account. The music clip will be made accessible today, with the remaining archive footage to follow. “I have almost forgotten about the existence of such film!”, Marek Grzybowski concludes. So let’s take a look back at how Polish breeding and a Poland hidden behind the “iron curtain” was perceived by Americans in 1985.
