On Wednesday, March 9th, the Qatari Al Shaqab Stud organized an auction of more than a hundred horses from its stables, as well as those from Al Rayyan. All offered horses found buyers. The prices were extremely diverse: from 5 thousand Qatari riyals to as much as half a million. The highest sold horse was a mare by WH Justice – lot 100, the grey 9 year old Wind Kamelia. Lot 53, the two year old bay mare Monerah Al Shaqab (Wadee Al Shaqab – Aleysha Al Naser/Gazal Al Shaqab) will come to Poland, to StanRed Arabians. As we were told by her owner, Stanisław Redestowicz, he is very happy with his purchase: “It would’ve been difficult to find a mare of this quality and in that price in Poland”.
Pinga’s full sister, Pilara Al Shaqab, was sold for 260 thousand riyals and the granddaughter of Worskla, Rihab Al Shaqab (by Fadi Al Shaqab), achieved a price of 110 thousand riyals. Emfora by Psytadel, bred by Leszek Jarmuż in Poland, was sold for 230 thousand riyals.
The buyers were mainly clients from the Middle East. Some of them bought several, even a dozen horses and the interest did not falter despite many hours of bidding. The auction was initially planned to be held outside, but due to the pouring rain it was moved indoors, where suitable conditions were quickly set up.
Everything seems to indicate that the Middle Eastern market is still very absorptive and new owners are found for both Straight Egyptians and those equines with international pedigrees. It must also be noted that Polish origins are certainly very sought after.
