Starting from Monday, June 20th, Janów Podlaski Stud will be managed by Professor Sławomir Pietrzak (born 1954), who was chosen by means of a contest announced by the Agricultural Property Agency. He is an employee of the Department of Horse Breeding and Use at the Biology and Animal Breeding Faculty in Lublin, an equestrian judge, president of the Lublin Riding Club and numerous medalist in dressage and show jumping. In 2007 he received the title of Professor of Agricultural Sciences. „Sławomir Pietrzak was chosen as the stud’s new director due to his enormous theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience associated with horse breeding”, we read in APA’s announcement. The results of the contest were announced by APA Vice-President Karol Tylenda during the Wednesday press conference. The APA spokesperson, Witold Strobel, said that Prof. Pietrzak’s concept for managing the stud was the one that the contest committee liked best – the candidates had to present their vision of the stud’s activity for the next 5 years.
„I feel prepared, because I have been greatly associated with horses for 45 years”, told the newly appointed Janów president to the „Dziennik Wschodni” newspaper. During an interview with Radio Lublin he said that there would be an inspection of the staff in Janów, but he also emphasized that despite the unfortunate deaths of mares „Janów is safe, will be safe and will further develop and remain the pride of our country”.
Professor Krystyna Chmiel, who knows the new president (both are members of the Horse Breeding Council at the Ministry of Agriculture), praises this decision: „He was the best candidate among those that applied and it’s good that he was chosen”, she tells us. „A researcher, zootechnician, an experienced rider. Though he is not associated with Arabian horses, he cannot be denied competence in horse breeding. He also has large scientific achievements”.
