Yesterday we have received very sad information from Służewiec Racecourse in Warsaw. On Friday 25th February – Tomasz Dul – one of the best Polish jockeys of the past two decades passed away in tragic car accident near Białobrzegi..
His career was near 40 years of riding (since 1967). In 1983 while he was riding at trainer Andrzej Walicki’s stable he won his 100 races becoming a “jockey”. He was one of the few jockeys that won over 1000 races in the career and he beaten the record winning 139 races at Służewiec Racecourse in one season. During his great career Tomasz Dul was 6 times Prime Minister’s Cup winner (3 times riding the same horse – Szarlatan), won 3 times The Great Warsaw’ Stake and 5 times Derby (including the one in 1997 won by phenomenal Pure bred Druid and the last one for Thoroughbreds – in 2004 season). He was also 1997 International Race Riders Championship winner at Służewiec Racecourse.
His outstanding talent was admired in foreign countries as well – Dul was starting in Berlin and United Arab Emirates. He co-operated with the best Polish trainers: Andrzej Walicki, Maciej Janikowski and Dorota Kałuba – riding also pure bred Arabians.
He was very effective jockey but he “felt the horse” and didn’t like to abuse the whip. In the last season he took part in 416 races winning 76 and was second in the rank of the best Polish jockeys. As the people related closer to Tomasz Dul says – his next dream was the career of race trainer. It’s so sad that we will not see how great successes could be achieved by The Man called “Dul – the King”.
