For Polish breeders and Polish Arabians this year’s show season has began in a very promising way. At this year’s first A-class Wels show a bag of medals has been untied. Four medals are going to Michałów State Stud – because of Padova (Galba – Palanga/Ekstern) who won the Silver Medal in a Junior Fillies Championship, Emandoria (Gazal Al Shaqab – Emanda/Ecaho) who was awarded with the Gold Medal, Emmona (Monogramm – Emilda/Pamir) received the Silver Medal and Pistoria (Gazal Al Shaqab – Palmira/Monogramm) – the Bronze Medal. The Michałów-bred mares have won this whole set of medals in senior mares category. Moreover, Palmira (Monogramm – Palestra/Penitent) has received the Top Five title. A Bronze Medal in the Junior Championship was also won by Psyche Kreuza (Ekstern – Pallas-Atena/Ecaho); it will probably stimulate the appetite of Chrcynno-Palace Stud for another trophies.

Eternal (FS Bengali – Ewitacja/Ganges) from Mała Wieś Stud, who was highly appreciated during last year, did a first successful performance at an international show; a Top Five title in the Junior Stallions Championship can be an encouragement to further participation for him and for his owners.

Despite the cold, wind, rain and a dark hall (both photographers and presenters complained about it), the Polish team experienced many special moments, including the one when the Michałów State Stud director Jerzy Białobok was posing for photographs with four grey mares, while the whole audience was applauding.

It’s worth emphasizing that Polish Arabians have never done such great performance at Wels Championship before. Until now, they did the best job in 2008, when Ejrene (Gazal Al Shaqab – Emocja/Mongoramm) won the champion title, while Emesa (Laheeb – Etopka/Eukaliptus) became a reserve champion (both are Michałów-bred). Among Polish bred and owned horses a Janów Podlaski-bred Sefora (Ekstern – Sawantka/Pepton) won the champion title in 2009. In the Junior Mares rivalry a reserve champion title went to Chrcynno-Palace Stud – it was won by Psyche Victoria (Ekstern – Pallas-Atena/Ecaho) in 2008. In stallion category Polish

representative won only once, in 2006, when Esparto (Ekstern – Ekspozycja/Eukaliptus) won the Senior Stallion Champion title.

It seems that Ferdinand Huemer, the show organizer, was right, when he said jokingly, that this year’s Wels Championship promised to be nearly a Polish National Championship – because of amount and quality of horses entered from Poland. The results have confirmed his words completely!
