The jubilee 25th All Nations Cup in Aachen didn’t seem to be so successful for Poland. Amongst 166 horses entered one could find such a stars and strong favorites as Lady Adelina DD, PS Rose of Marwan, full sister to Marajj – DL Marielle, marvellous Venetzia, 2006 Araber Weltweit Horse of the Year – Bolero EM, Col Cora, Ames Charisma, MA Shadow El Sher, Master Design, Eternity Ibn Navarrone D. Very big classes of young horses were full of the progeny of young but successful sires: WH Justice, Psytadel, Marwan Al Shaqab, El Amin. However the consequence and long breeding tradition of Polish state studs as well as Polish private breeding braveness and dynamic development made the show in Aachen successful for Poland once again at the end of the event. The 27 best Polish horses strongly competed for the fourth All Nations and second Breeders Cups in Polish history for two days of show. Poles grabbed the titles of Senior Champion Mare (and the highest score of the show – 94,70) for Michałów-bred Palmira, two Reserve titles: for Altis from Falborek Arabians and Esparto from Michałów and Top Fives for three Michałów’ horses: Pistoria, Estoria and Grafik and Etnologia from Janów Podlaski. Besides the mentioned the following horses were placed in classes top fives: Espinezja by Leszek Jarmuż, bred in Belgium Bresilia by Wojciech Parczewski, Satis from Falborek Arabians and 11 horses bred by state studs: Poganin, Sefora and Pinta from Janów, Celsjusz and Emika from Białka and Michałów-bred: Ejrene, Espadrilla, Emocja, Gaspar, Prognoza (sold to Sweden) and Eberia (in Belgium). Thanks to the points for these places Poland won both Cups.

But the success didn’t came easily – some of the classes were full of favorites competing at the international arena not for the first time. In the first class of yearling fillies Polish Espinezja and Psyche Victoria looked very good but they competed against very strong fillies as Lady Adelina by Psytadel, small (born in June), but very good moving while presented by Scott Allman Zawah De Lam or bred by Al Shaqab Stud Abha, granddaughter of El Perfecto. Amongst the 14 yearling colts WH Justice’s progeny triumphed taking three first places (there were 5 colts by WH Justice entered but two withdrawn). The class was won by very elegant and always good moving Altis, and his stable mate Satis was placed third after Belgian Preemium, also an outstanding mover.

Three years old fillies class was quite dramatic where Polish Ekina, Norma, Ejrene, private bred Ganga by Family Poszepczyński and Pistoria competed, the last one, scored 92,5 was leading the class up to the end until the chestnut beauty and strong favorite Venetzia came to the ring. Last in her class Venetzia was scored 93. Good looking Fer Fiera Blanca (91,3), Maya des Alpes (90,9) and pure Polish Mysterious Lady J (by Ekstern, 90,0) were also strong rivals. It’s a pity that very good FS Cayenne by AS Natsir Apal that was also entered didn’t compete at least.

The next, high scored class of mares was spectacularly won by Janów-bred Etnologia scored as high and unanimously as 5×19 for type, 5×19 for head & neck, 5×18 for body and 5×20 for movement, 93,6 in total. Competing as 6th amongst 12 mares in the class Etnologia was in very good condition and shown off at stand and in movement very well handled by Johanna Ullström so she didn’t give a chance to her rivals as Col Cora (92,4), Bint Al Shamal (93,4) or Khaleifa (92,3).

Sunday belonged to Michałów Stud without a doubt. In the first class of the day Estoria (1.) and Espadrilla (4.) were placed in top five as well as the more beauty the older she is – Białka-bred Emika scored 4×20 for movement. Next class the four Michałów-bred mares competed taking 4 first places as follows: Palmira, Eberia (sold in Jadem Arabians), Emocja and Prognoza (in Sweden). Also two Michałów-bred stallions won their classes later on. One of the favorites in his class was Esparto, on lease to Ajman Stud and being trained for nearly a year by Frank Spoenle Esparto is still progressing though he is quite fit still. He competed very well against famous MA Shadow El Sher, Final Shadow, Master Design, Galinka El Sheikh or Ames Charisma from US. Also Janów-bred Poganin has done very well in this class placed third. The last class to go was also won by Michałów stud with 2007 Polish National Reserve Champion Grafik, that won the spectators’ hearts by his outstanding movement however he didn’t compete against very strong stallions in his class and quite easily won with Russian blooded – Karat, Piligrim, Davidoff and Lobeke.

Michałów Stud’s director celebrating his birthday on Sunday had to go out for the prize givings very often that day. In the championships the Reserve Champion title for Altis was very nice surprise and the first All Nations Cup Reserve Championships won by Polish private bred and owned horse. Altis has beaten such a stars as Memphis 27, El Amin or Bolero EM. There was one unchallenged favorite of junior male championships, Marwan Al Shaqab’s son – Mardigras JMF. This very handsome colt repeated his result from the past year.

US-bred Mardigras as well as Venetzia and PS Rose of Marwan were trained by one of the world’s leading trainers – Michael Byatt. It must be said that, though the American way of handling is quite different from the one we used to see in Europe, it was a real pleasure to watch the results of Michael Byatt and his partners’ work in the ring with horses being in great disposition and condition.

We owe the good words of comment also to the show organizers for the well organized and controlled show presentations. This year movement was judged as the first and that idea seems to be very good especially for the horses well moving while entering the ring.

‘The show was so much better for the horses, the handlers were very well behaved and with this new system the movement came out a lot better. The DC’s did a very good strict job, and were consistent in this with everybody, no exceptions! This was so much more pleasant to be part of than in the past few years’ says the handler Eric Dorssers from Belgium.

One is undoubted – All Nations Cup is one of the most important Arabian horse event in the world and as such important one it is also very well organized in overall. The good area logistic, the show place close to the hotels and Aachen the town and at last but not least – the professional show staff and nice atmosphere gives one the impression that All Nations Cup is an event that can not fail and being a part of it is a real pleasure – for the participants as well as for the spectators – not only VIP’s. It should be a good example for the other show organizers, also those in Poland.

The jubilee Evening Gala was the occasion for all the past All Nations Cup winners, some of them attended the show „personally” (form Poland Kwestura, Zagrobla and El Dorada was shown).

Susanne Boesche, Araber Weltweit chief editor that was watching the All Nations Cup event from it’s beginning said that this year’s show didn’t have especially large number of participants but there was a big number of very good young horses this time but, in her opinion, some more big stars have been missing.

At the backstage of each big show as All Nations Cup where the whole “big world” of Arabian horse breeding comes the transactions take place. The news about one of the best Marwan Al Shaqab’s sons – QR Marc purchase to Europe electrified the spectators in Aachen. Also Family Poszepczyński were given a sale offer and the other Polish breeders started the negotiations for the 2008 breedings to the foreign stallions (ex. Master Design). Others could verify their opinions about the horses watching them in real instead of the photos. In some cases it was a proof that sometimes a beautiful picture is far from the reality – in others – that even a nice picture can not show the true beauty of an Arabian horse.

The next competitions of Polish Arabian horses in the international arena will take place in nearly a month at European Championships (though we will not see many of the stars registered outside Europe there) and after that – in World Championships in Paris. Polish team will attend at nearly the same lineup as in Aachen probably (that was confirmed by Janów Podlaski Stud director so far).

The big surprise was the lack of the big favourite – Al Kalediah Stud from Saudi Arabia, owner of such great horses as Robin K, Nowarat Al Kalediah, Magora, Marquis CAHR, Baanderos, Dakharo, Athenaa or Om El Bernadette. If the horses owned by this strong stud would compete in Paris, the places taken at All Nations Cup could change again. Also the Marwan Al Shaqab’s son – famous Marajj came to Europe form US again to be trained and shown in Paris by Scott Allman. 2006 World Reserve Champion will be surely competing for the Champion title this time.

The very good result of Polish horses at All Nations Cup turned the international forum’s eye to Polish breeding again. The applause and nice words in Aachen as well as the discussions and compliments at international discussing forums after – are the best proofs.
Let’s hope the lucky streak will keep on up to the end of 2007 show season.
